Identify the Problem
What are the signs of gophers in my yard?
The most common sign is fresh, crescent-shaped dirt mounds with a plugged hole off to one side. You may also see plants wilting or disappearing from below, soft spots in the lawn, and chewed irrigation lines. See the 5 signs you have a gopher problem.
What do gopher holes and mounds look like?
Gopher mounds are fan or crescent shaped piles of loose soil. The hole is usually plugged, so you rarely see an open entrance. Open holes are more common with ground squirrels. Our guide to what gophers and their mounds look like has photos.
Is it a gopher, ground squirrel, or mole?
Gophers leave plugged, fan-shaped mounds. Ground squirrels leave open burrow holes and are often seen above ground. Moles make raised ridges and round, volcano-shaped mounds. Compare them in gopher vs. ground squirrel and our gophers vs. moles section.
When are gophers most active in Southern California?
Gophers are active year-round here, but you tend to see the most new mounds when soil is moist, such as after rain or regular watering in spring and fall. Read more in when gophers are most active in Southern California.
Treatment and Results
Can you remove gophers without poison?
Yes. Our standard residential service uses a poison-free trap system, with traps set underground inside active tunnels. Learn about our residential gopher control or read why we choose poison-free gopher control.
What should I know about children and pets during treatment?
Poison-free does not mean risk-free. Traps are set underground, but keep children and pets away from marked trap locations and do not touch or move any equipment. Follow the instructions your technician gives you for your yard, and call us with any questions.
How long does gopher removal take?
Many residential jobs are resolved in as little as 2 days. Timing varies with property size, soil, and how many gophers are active, so there is no fixed deadline. See what to expect from professional gopher removal.
Should I try DIY gopher removal or hire a professional?
DIY can work for a single gopher, but traps placed in the wrong tunnel often miss, and activity can spread while you try. A trained technician finds active runs quickly. Compare the options in hiring a professional vs. DIY gopher removal.
What happens during a professional gopher removal visit?
Your technician walks the property, probes for active tunnels, and sets traps underground where gophers are traveling. We explain what we found and what comes next. The number of visits depends on your property. Read what to expect during professional gopher removal.
Pricing and Warranty
How much does gopher removal cost?
Cost depends on your property size and how much activity there is. If we can gauge the activity over the phone, we can often quote right away. Widespread activity is best quoted after an on-site inspection. See our gopher removal cost guide and residential service details.
What does your 60-day warranty cover?
Our 60-day warranty applies to professional trapping, not baiting. During the first 30 days, returning activity in the same treated area has no service fee; each additional gopher caught is $45. Days 31–60 have a reduced $150 service fee in most areas, including the first gopher, plus $45 per additional gopher. New treatment areas have different setup terms. Read our full 60-day warranty coverage and fees.
What should I do if gophers return or appear in another part of my property?
Contact our team and share your original service date and the area where you see new activity. Returning activity in a treated area and activity in a new area are handled differently, and fees may differ. Details are in our 60-day warranty guide.
Does the warranty apply to baiting?
No. The 60-day warranty covers professional trapping only. Baiting services for commercial and large properties are not covered. Read the warranty details or learn about commercial gopher control.
Larger Properties and Ongoing Care
How do you treat acreage and commercial properties?
Large and commercial sites are treated with professional underground baiting, because trap-by-trap service is impractical at that scale. Learn about our commercial gopher control and large property gopher control.
How can I reduce future gopher activity?
Watch for fresh mounds and act early, since one gopher can spread quickly. Protect new plantings with wire baskets and keep an eye on edges that border open land. No method prevents gophers permanently. Get more ideas in how to keep gophers out.
